MSSN National President Calls for Inclusivity,Fairness in CAN's Statements

The Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has raised concern over recent comments made by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Catholic Bishop of Nigeria regarding the declaration of a Ramadan holiday by some Northern States Governors.

In a statement, MSSN National President Engr Tajudeen Mustapha Olumide expressed concern over the comments, describing them as "unwarranted" and "insensitive" to religious harmony and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria

The MSSN emphasized that the decision to declare a Ramadan holiday was made in good faith, with the support of the majority of citizens in the affected states, and does not negatively impact the education sector or academic activities of secondary school students.

Furthermore, the MSSN criticized CAN and the Catholic Bishop for remaining silent on the ongoing Monday sit-at-home order imposed by IPOB in the Eastern region, which has prevented students from attending school for years

The MSSN urged CAN and the Catholic Bishop to promote fairness, inclusivity, and religious tolerance, emphasizing that these values are essential for national unity.

As an organization, the MSSN has a rich history of promoting peaceful coexistence among religious groups in Nigeria, dating back to its founding in 1954
