Youth Leadership in Odogbolu Local Government: APC Decade of Progress and the Path Forward By Hon. Oluwaseun Oguntade

Odogbolu Local Government stands as a leading example of how the All Progressives Congress (APC) has actively fostered emerging political leaders, especially among the youth, through strategic political and executive appointments.

In an era where individuals under 35 are often excluded from formal political leadership roles across Nigeria, Odogbolu has charted a distinct and promising path. Over the past decade, the APC has empowered young leaders in their 30s and early 40s to assume key political and executive positions, transforming the landscape of grassroots governance and marking a significant shift in the dynamics of leadership and governance at the grassroots.

While the call for greater youth participation in Nigeria’s political system is widespread, Odogbolu Local Government's journey highlights the APC’s commitment to this cause. The party’s master plan has deliberately nurtured young talent, allowing them to take on critical responsibilities in governance. By integrating youth leadership at the executive level, the APC has set the foundation for long-term political and administrative growth in Odogbolu Local Government. This progress has been steady and methodical—much like the way an airplane gradually ascends, building momentum for future heights and setting the stage for even greater achievements.

Just as an aircraft does not instantly reach cruising altitude but goes through vital stages of preparation and ascent, the APC’s investment in youth leadership in Odogbolu Local Government has followed a similar, strategic trajectory over the past decade. Each stage in this development has been crucial to establishing a sustainable framework for future progress.

One of the early champions of this journey, Hon. Wale Shittu, made significant strides during his tenure, navigating political challenges while strengthening the local government’s foundation for growth. His successor, Hon. Femi Onakoya, who served as Transitional Caretaker Chairman, continued this momentum, ensuring the baton of leadership was passed to the next generation.

Hon. Ladejobi Shuaib’s administration exemplified the APC’s philosophy of continuity and development. His leadership can be likened to an aircraft taxiing on the runway, preparing for takeoff. Embracing the principle of "government as a continuum," as espoused by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Hon. Shuaib prioritized the completion of ongoing projects while building on the efforts of his predecessors. His tenure saw all 15 wards of Odogbolu Local Government benefit from tangible improvements—ranging from the construction of health centres, and completion and construction of new schools, to youth empowerment programs, agriculture initiatives, infrastructure development such as road grading and water projects, and market expansion. Additionally, initiatives like the distribution of essential school materials under the “Back to School”, Kids Excursion, among other programs further cemented his commitment to youth and community development.

As Odogbolu Local Government looks toward the future, the APC’s legacy of building young political leaders continues with the emergence of Dr Babatunde Diya as the party’s chairmanship candidate in the continuation of the APC’s decade-long tradition and grooming of youth-driven progress in Odogbolu Local Government.

With your vote, Dr. Babatunde Diya and the APC Councilor candidates from Wards 1 to 15 will carry forward the mantle of leadership, building on the foundation laid by their predecessors.

Together, they represent the continuity of growth, empowerment, and prosperity for Odogbolu Local Government.

Let us continue to support the party that nurtures emerging leaders. Let us support the party that champions development and continuity.
