Ehiguse Elected PRCAN President

Mr. John Ehiguese, Founder/CEO of Mediacraft Associates, a leading Nigerian PR consulting firm, has been elected President of the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria (PRCAN). PRCAN is the umbrella body of PR consultancies operating in Nigeria.
Ehiguese was elected unopposed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the body, which held in Lagos on Friday, November 14, 2014. He had been Vice President since 2012.
Other EXCO members elected were: Muyiwa Akintunde (Leap Communications) as Vice President; Adetola Odusote (CMC-Connect) as Secretary-General; Israel Opayemi (Chain Reactions) as Publicity Secretary; Moji Saka (Soulcomm-Publicis) as Treasurer/Financial Secretary and Mike Nzeagwu (Metro Media Communications) as Asst. Secretary-General. They will serve a tenure of two years.
In a short address he delivered after the election, Ehiguese thanked the members of the Association for electing him unopposed, describing his new position of president as that of a ‘primus inter pares’ – first among equals.
He said: “With the advent of globalization, it is no longer tenable for us as Nigerians to continue to talk about the potentials and opportunities available here, we must begin now to be active players in the global theatre, as it were.
“I am coming into office with but a single agenda: to put Nigerian PR practice on the global map. This agenda of course has some sub-themes, which I will espouse in due course. But make no mistake about it: this is a cause to which I am resolutely and totally committed,” Ehiguese added.
PRCAN was founded in 1984 as a trade sectoral group for the public relations industry in Nigeria. The Association works to uphold best practice in public relations in Nigeria in the areas of standards, conduct as well as economic well-being for the public relations industry generally and public relations consulting in particular for the benefit of all stakeholders.
Following the promulgation of the NIPR Act No.16 of 1990, the Association obtained legal backing with the enactment by NIPR of the Public Relations Consultancy (Amended) Practice Bye-Law (No.3) of 1993.
